As part of our video series about meditation we would like to introduce you to the first of three meditations which incorporates an external visualization. Throughout this level one meditation, we will visualize a candle. This candle meditation is a way to distract the mind from having any thoughts by focusing on an external spot or object. The candle is also used in martial arts meditation to fine tune reaction and a sense for an enemy’s movements by training the mind to closely follow the flame. Watching an external object is not a deep form of a meditation, but is a great start for some individuals. Over time you can mix the candle meditation with other meditations such as focusing on the breath with closed eyes, fire or water breathing, or visualizing the “Lower Energy Center.” This meditation can be done either sitting or standing.
