As we continue our video series on meditation, we would like to introduce you to one of our more simple meditations, the level one or “External Sound Meditation.” During this meditation, we use the sound of gentle chimes to distract the mind from having any thoughts by focusing on an external sound. Listening to external sounds is not as deep of a meditation as our other meditations, but it is a great way for beginners to cultivate mindfulness. Make sure you find the right sound for you. Try different sounds: water, nature, wood crackling in a fire place or various music sounds. Over time you can mix the external sound meditation with deeper levels of meditation such as focusing on the breath with closed eyes and fire or water breathing, or a visualization like, “Lower Energy Center.” This meditation can be done from a chair, on the floor or standing.
